Split Testing Checkouts

You can use split testing in Phoenix to compare multiple checkout experiences within the same store. This allows you to control traffic allocation, test performance differences, and evaluate conversion impact without disrupting your active checkout flow.

Split testing is configured at the store level and applies only to the selected checkout funnels.

Use Cases

Split testing checkouts supports several common optimization scenarios.

Access Store Checkout Settings

To begin setting up a checkout split test, navigate to the store where the checkout is configured.

  1. Log in to your Phoenix Dashboard.

  2. In the left navigation menu, go to Stores.

  3. Locate the store you want to work.

  4. Select the Checkout tab.

This section displays all checkouts available for the selected store.

Add a Checkout to a Split Test

To start a split test, you need to add a checkout to the active checkout funnel.

  1. Locate the checkout you want to test.

  2. Click + Add Checkout To Funnel for the selected checkout.

  3. Select the Checkout page.

  4. Choose whether the checkout should be Active or Inactive.

  5. Click Add to apply changes.

If you set the checkout as Active, Phoenix automatically includes it in the traffic distribution.

Configure Traffic Allocation

Once multiple checkouts are active, Phoenix automatically allocates traffic based on the number of active checkouts.

For example, if you have two active checkouts, traffic is split evenly at 50/50.

If you want more control:

  • Leave your current checkout active at 100%

  • Set the new checkout as Inactive

  • Activate it manually and assign a custom traffic percentage for your split test

This allows you to fine-tune how much traffic is sent to each checkout variation.

Important Traffic Reset Consideration

When you activate a new checkout in a split test, Phoenix resets the performance metrics shown in the checkout funnel.

Traffic and conversion data are recalculated based on the new allocation.

Before activating a new checkout, make sure you record or export any existing performance data you want to keep for reference.

Monitor Split Test Performance

After the split test is active, Phoenix tracks checkout performance based on the configured traffic allocation.

You can monitor results directly within the checkout funnel to compare performance and determine which checkout performs best before making long-term changes.
